Description of the four seasons

In spring...
Spring brings colour to the Treetop Walkway. First, the white of the cherry tree blossoms and the pale green of the sycamore before the first leaves sprout in a delicate green. Each tree has its own time to come into leaf. The forest presents itself in the most diverse shades of green. The smell of spring is in the air and insects fly busily from blossom to blossom. The concert of birds is a delight to the ears. On the Treetop Walkway, you can experience the spring growth of the forest at close quarters and from a very special perspective.

In Summer...
The humidity and shade of the forest are refreshing in the  heat of the summer. The shrubs and trees now bear their fruits that are ripening. The cherry trees slowly change from green to red and the sycamore forms the typical winged fruit we call “whirlers,” “twisters” or “whirligigs,” but are actually called samaras. The leaves already show the first traces of the ravenous insects. The branches stretch towards the sun and new shoots grow longer every week. Oxygen production is in full swing. The leaves convert CO2 and water into sugar and oxygen. You can wonder at these marvels, touch them and observe them closely on the Treetop Walkway.

In Autumn...
As the days get shorter and the temperatures get cooler, the trees prepare for winter. The chlorophyll (green of the leaves) is withdrawn from the leaves into the trunk and stored. This causes the leaves to change into their autumn colours. Many trees bear fruit, which is either eaten by animals or carried away by the autumn wind. The migratory birds gather to fly south together. You can enjoy the view over the sea of mist on a foggy day or take a walk through the misty forest, where the trees are only vaguely visible and the sounds of the forest are experienced more intensely.

In Winter...
Snow crunches underfoot as you wander along the walkway. The trees are bare and the forest becomes more open as the branching of the boughs becomes visible. Each tree species has its own pattern. Without leaves, the buds containing the whole shoot with the leaves already prepared for the coming year come into focus. These buds are incased to protect them from cold and snow. The different species of the each tree can be distinguished on by the different shapes of the buds. The tracks of various animals can be observed in the snow on the ground. The fox, the deer or the squirrel that roam the forest in search of food have left their footprints. Peace and tranquillity can be found on the Treetop Walkway as you experience the living forest in winter.
